Parnells Ladies Gaelic Football Club was formed in
1988 , reaching the semi-final of the Championship in their first
year, when they were beaten by the eventual winners The Kingdom
.
In 1992 they were runners-up, but with great determination and
perseverance they captured the title in 1993, a feat repeated in
1994 and 1995.
In 1994 they played Rochfortbridge (Westmeath) in the semi-final of
the All-Ireland Club Ladies Championship, the game was played at
Parnell Park, London , it was a close run match with the Parnells
girls losing by the narrowest of margins - a single point.
In 1994 Parnells reached the All Ireland 7 a-side semi-final, this
was followed by winning the All-Ireland 7's in 1995, this was
a tremendous achievement by Parnells, who were the first British
based Ladies club team to win an All-Ireland title, along the way
they defeated the reigning champions, Timahoe (Laois) 4-5 to 3-4,
our club continues to be regular contenders in this
competition.
1995 also saw Parnells reach their first All-Ireland Club
Championship final, beating Clan na Gael (Roscommon) in the semi
final, the final was won Ballymacarbry (Waterford) however it was a
clear demonstration of the quality of Ladies Gaelic football in
London, it was the first occasion of a club outside Ireland
participating in an all Ireland final.
In 1996 Parnells won the Senior Championship for the fourth year
running and again reached the later stages of the of the club
championship losing to St. Euans of Donegal by 2 points.
In 1997, 1998 , 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2003 , 2004 Parnells won the
Senior Championship, the Mary Feehan Cup and the league, in 2004 we
also reached the All Ireland Intermediate club championship final
but were narrowly defeated by Niobh Aban of Cork.
2006 saw many new players arrive, they helped to add to the success
of the club when the championship was retained in a final that was
one of the best Gaelic games in London that year.
2008 offered Parnells an opportunity to actively engage with
schools and younger local players, many of our existing settled
panel have come through this work and have added to a new dimension
to our club.
The delayed 2007 Mary Feehan Cup final and its retention in the
2008 competition provided platforms for our new young talent to
express their ability on the big stage, and with support from our
more established squad we expect these players will help create
some new chapters in our history.
2008 also saw London Ladies win an All Ireland title for the first
time since 1993, defeating Derry, the team had several Parnells
players who along with their team-mates worked very hard throughout
the summer to bring home this rare piece of silver.
The 2008 Provincial 9-A-Side was retained by Parnells Ladies, a
feat added to by their capture of the London 7-A-Side later on in
the year.
In 2009 our club retained the Mary Feehan cup, Provincial 9-A-Side
and London 7-A-side crowns, once again parnells participated in the
All Ireland Sevens
2010 marked another great year for our club, an early start in
training brought rewards of winning Championship and League
as well wining all other London competitions, this was crowned by
winning the UK championship, our club actively worked at involving
locally born players who's contribution to our year played a big
part in our success, the year also included our participation in
the All Ireland sevens in Dublin where as well as a great day of
football we linked up with several former players now playing with
clubs in Ireland but hold strong bonds with our club.
2011 marked the continued success of Parnells in a year when the introduction of new national formats meant regular travel to games throughout the UK, in an action packed year and with more fixtures Parnells Ladies retained their provincial title and went on to a place in the All Ireland Club Championship Semi final where we were defeated by One point however a week later won the London Ladies League in convincing fashion.
